Welcome!

If you are looking for a warm, friendly congregation that welcomes new people and new ideas, we invite you to visit Fredericksburg Congregational Church United Church of Christ.  All people are welcomed and affirmed regardless of race, sexual orientation, gender, physical ability, or economic status.  It doesn’t matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here.

We are a new congregation, organized in 2000 to offer the Fredericksburg area a United Church of Christ.  We worship on Sundays at 10 a.m. at Tickers Coffee house in the Westwood Shopping Center.

What is the United Church of Christ?

The United Church of Christ is one of our nation’s newest denominations.  It was formed in 1957 by a merger of the Congregational Christian Church and the Evangelical and Reformed Church.  However, the denominations which created the UCC go back to the pilgrims who landed at Plymouth Rock and the Protestant Reformation in Germany.

 What do we believe?

Central to our belief is the statement:  Jesus Christ, Son of God and Savior, is the sole head of the United Church of Christ.  That statement frees us to operate by congregational government, meaning that our national body can not control the local congregation.  But the same statement also limits us to the God who is made known through Jesus Christ.

We are a non-creedal church, which means we do not use a creed as a litmus test to determine who is faithful and who is not.  Yet we hold in high respect our own statement of faith and the historical creeds of the Christian church.    We also look to Holy Scripture to find the word of God, yet we do not impose a particular interpretation of the Bible on our members.

Like most Protestant churches, we observe two sacraments: Baptism and Holy Communion.

 What we do?

Saying “Jesus Christ is the sole  head of the United Church of Christ” means that we have been and continue to be a denomination deeply concerned about peace and social justice issues.  We believe in living out our faith, even if our faith leads us to take unpopular stands.
